Empango Ceremony - Uganda
11th June to 12th June

Empango Ceremony by Kabalega Foundation
Held in Hoima at the Boma Grounds in Mbarara, this annual event celebrates the coronation anniversary of the Omukama (king) of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom; one of the most powerful kingdoms in Uganda. They are still ruled under a monarchy and are a remainder of the Kitara empire which governed parts of Western Kenya, Northern Tanzania and Eastern Congo. Experience the rich cultural heritage of the Bunyoro people as they come together for traditional rituals, dancing, and singing, providing a unique glimpse into one of Uganda's oldest kingdoms.
