WHEN TO TRAVEL

Best from October to early May for clear skies and comfortable trekking conditions. The landscape is lush and green from September to January, just after the rains, making this an especially scenic time for hiking. Avoid June to September, when heavy rains make trails muddy and some routes impassable.

Day 1 - Castles & Culture in Gondar
Arrive in Addis Ababa and fly to Gondar. Explore Emperor Fasilidas’ medieval castles and the beautifully painted Debre Berhan Selassie Church. Enjoy a restful evening in Gondar, preparing for your highland adventure. Savor local cuisine and soak up the city’s historic atmosphere before your journey into the Simien Mountains begins.

Day 2 - Into the Simien Highlands
Drive to Debark to meet your trekking team and enter the Simien Mountains. Hike through dramatic escarpments and highland scenery via Chinkwanit and Michibi to Sankaber. Encounter Gelada baboons and take in breathtaking views. Camp under the stars, surrounded by the sounds and serenity of the Simien wilderness.

Day 3 - Waterfalls, Wildlife & Mountain Lodge
Hike along breathtaking ridges toward the spectacular Genbar Waterfalls, watching for Lammergeiers and Gelada baboons. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild. Transfer to Simien Lodge—the highest lodge in Africa—for a comfortable evening, panoramic mountain views, and a chance to relax after your days of trekking and exploration.

Day 4 - Sunrise Trails & Return to Gondar
Wake early for a sunrise hike around the lodge, taking in sweeping views and searching for endemic wildlife. After breakfast, check out and drive back to Gondar. End your journey with a traditional Ethiopian dinner and live music before transferring to the airport or your hotel, reflecting on your highland adventure.
