Three male mountain bongo antelope share pellets in a trough at Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy in April 2026. Critically endangered, with fewer than 100 individuals left in the wild, the mountain bongo is the focus of an ongoing repatriation and breeding program aimed at restoring the species to its native forest habitat.

Faulu. Tiny, but mighty.
Faulu is one of the Maasai Mara’s well-known leopards, and she reminded me just how unpredictable nature can be. We watched her quietly approach a termite mound. Aardvarks often dig into termite mounds to feed, leaving behind burrows that are later used by many other animals as shelter. To our surprise, Faulu disappeared into one of those burrows and emerged carrying a bat-eared fox. She then took her catch to a nearby tree. Nature never follows a script, and that’s what makes every sighting unforgettable.
