This journey through Tanzania’s Wild North weaves together adventure, wildlife, and vibrant culture. Start in Arusha’s gardens and markets before heading to Tarangire for classic safaris among elephants and baobabs, plus the thrill of night drives and walking safaris. At Lake Eyasi, rise early to join the Hadzabe on a traditional hunt and meet Datoga blacksmiths. Continue to the remote eastern Serengeti for intimate big cat encounters and sweeping plains, then follow the Great Migration from a mobile camp positioned for the season’s spectacle.

Day 1

Arrival – Garden Welcome

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your guide for a warm welcome to Tanzania. Transfer to your tranquil lodge in Arusha, nestled among lush gardens and vibrant birdlife. Take time to relax after your journey. As evening falls, gather for a welcome dinner, savoring local flavors and meeting fellow travelers as you settle in and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2

Arusha Life – Markets & Culture

Spend your first full day exploring Arusha’s lively markets and cultural sites. Optional excursions include a visit to Arusha National Park or a local coffee plantation. Absorb the city’s energy and learn about Tanzanian traditions. In the afternoon, relax at your lodge, reflecting on the day’s discoveries and anticipating your upcoming safari experiences.
Day 3

Into Tarangire – First Safari

Travel to Tarangire National Park, famed for its elephant herds and ancient baobabs. Settle into your tented camp and embark on your first game drive, searching for elephants, lions, and diverse birdlife. As the sun sets, enjoy the sights and sounds of the wild, and dine under the African sky at your comfortable camp.
Day 4

Elephants – Night Safari

Enjoy a full day of game drives in Tarangire, seeking out elephants, lions, and abundant wildlife. After a picnic lunch in the bush, join a night drive or walking safari at dusk. Experience the park’s nocturnal creatures and unique ecosystem before returning to camp for a restful night surrounded by the sounds of nature.
Day 5

Lake Eyasi – Tribal Encounters

Journey to Lake Eyasi, home to the Hadzabe hunter-gatherers and Datoga blacksmiths. Rise early to join the Hadzabe on a traditional hunt, witnessing their survival skills and connection to the land. Spend time in lakeshore villages, observe birdlife, and visit Datoga artisans to learn about their ancient metalworking traditions and daily life.
Day 6

Lake Eyasi – Villages & Birdlife

Continue exploring Lake Eyasi’s cultural and natural wonders. Visit more lakeshore communities, interact with local families, and observe the region’s rich birdlife. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon at your lodge or venture out for a guided walk along the lakeshore, taking in the peaceful scenery and reflecting on your immersive cultural experiences.
Day 7

Serengeti East – Big Cats

Travel to the remote eastern Serengeti, a haven for big cats, especially cheetahs. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives across sweeping plains and acacia woodlands. Optional walking safaris or night drives offer a new perspective on the park’s wildlife and starlit skies. Settle into your camp and prepare for the days of migration ahead.
Day 8

Migration Camp – Wildebeest Drama

Move to a mobile camp positioned for the Great Migration. Begin your day with an early morning game drive, witnessing the awe-inspiring movement of wildebeest and zebras. Spend the afternoon on further drives or relaxing at camp, and dine under a sky ablaze with stars, fully immersed in the drama and beauty of the Serengeti.
Day 9

Migration Camp – Safari & Relaxation

Continue your migration safari with morning and afternoon game drives, tracking predators and herds across the plains. Enjoy downtime at camp, perhaps with a bush lunch or a siesta. As evening falls, gather around the campfire to share stories and soak in the sights and sounds of the Serengeti wilderness.
Days 10-11

Migration Finale & Farewell

Experience the migration’s spectacle with early game drives, bush breakfasts, and wildlife encounters, making the most of your time in the heart of the Serengeti. This will bring you unforgettable sights and the energy of the herds. After a final sunrise drive on day 11, transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Arusha, departing with lasting memories of Tanzania’s wild beauty and extraordinary experiences.

When to travel

Best from June to October for the Great Migration and dry-season wildlife. January to March offers lush landscapes and calving season in the Serengeti. Avoid April–May when heavy rains can impact travel.
