Nomad Africa Travel is dedicated to advancing sustainable and regenerative tourism practices in East Africa and beyond. Our impact strategy adopts an integrated framework that addresses Environmental, Social and Governance issues in sustainable tourism development. While we are committed to enriching the travel experiences of our guests, we contribute positively to the environment by engaging in initiatives that foster a green supply chain, restore our natural habitats and promote biodiversity conservation to enhance the natural beauty of the environments we operate in.

We have a particular focus on the socio-cultural empowerment of women and local communities to foster equity, and inclusion within the tourism value chain. By enhancing the entrepreneurial capacity of local enterprises, promoting upskilling initiatives and engaging in cultural heritage preservation, we aim to build resilient communities in our destinations and increase women’s participation in travel and tourism. Holistically, we serve by example by adopting a robust governance approach to ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in all our operations.

ENVIRONMENT & CLIMATE ACTION

As a travel and media agency, we try our best to operate to reduce our carbon emissions and promote Nature Positive Tourism - the practice of tourism that minimises environmental harm and prioritises investment in nature restoration efforts. As such, we publish our magazine on FSC-certified papers, deliver part of our magazines through electric motorbikes, and partner with conservation and environmentally sustainable initiatives to ensure each trip we create leaves a positive impact behind.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

We are a women-run team, and we believe women can truly run the world! We promote initiatives that support the upskilling of women in the hospitality and tourism sector and build women-friendly travel products that increase women's participation in travel. In the future, we hope to organise training to up-skill women in rural areas where we operate.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

We believe in only working with the best partners, and having personal relationships with them to make sure our clients are always in the best hands. With our partners and everyone we work with, we want to encourage them to also operate with sustainability front of mind, and as such we aim to increase the number of Nomad’s eco-certified suppliers by 50% by 2025 and work with verified partners to create a ‘green travel network’.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

By fostering strong relationships with local partners, we not only promote community engagement but also support the local economy. We promote off-season travel via our Nomad Travel Club to ensure consistency for local communities.
