NOMAD AFRICA

Our Impact

WE WANT TO COMMIT TO A MORE RESPECTFUL, CONSCIOUS AND UPLIFTING WAY OF TRAVEL.

Nomad Africa is dedicated to advancing sustainable and regenerative tourism practices in East Africa and beyond.
Our impact strategy adopts an integrated framework that addresses Environmental, Social and Governance issues in sustainable tourism development. While we are committed to enriching the travel experiences of our guests, we contribute positively to the environment by engaging in initiatives that restore our natural habitats, foster a green supply chain and promote biodiversity conservation to enhance the natural beauty of the environments we operate in.

We have a particular focus on the socio-cultural empowerment of women and local communities to foster equity and inclusion within the tourism value chain. By enhancing the entrepreneurial capacity of local enterprises, promoting upskilling initiatives and engaging in cultural heritage preservation, we aim to build resilient communities in our destinations and increase women’s participation in travel and tourism. Holistically, we serve by example by adopting a robust governance approach to ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in all our operations.

ENVIRONMENT & CLIMATE ACTION

We won the Ecowarrior Awards for the 2024 Leading Tour Operator in Responsible Tourism Practices by Ecotourism Kenya. This is a great milestone for us, and it reflects our efforts to promote responsible consumption and production in tourism, especially when it comes to natural resources.

We also commit to protecting the environment by publishing our magazine on FSC-certified papers only. In addition, we have compensated 25 tons of carbon footprint of our business operations through Stand For Trees.  Thanks to this we have conserved  500 trees in the Kasigau Wildlife Sanctuary, a vital migration corridor in Tsavo National Park, and helped support over 116,000 community members through job creation and economic development.

Our innovative carbon-neutral itineraries integrated into our bookings SOP also ensure our clients contribute to this shared vision. We have conserved 100 trees so far, from our clients' contribution towards offsetting their carbon footprint.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

We are a women-run team, and we believe women can truly run the world! Our team is made up of 75% women out of which 30% are in senior leadership. This shows our commitment to bridging the gender equality gap in tourism as we ensure decent and productive work for our team, accompanied by decent pay.

We also promote upskilling through female internship opportunities to enhance the skills of women in the hospitality and tourism sector. Through our platform, we market women-friendly travel products like the Ride for a Woman product in Uganda to increase women's participation in travel.

In the future, we hope to organize training to up-skill economically marginalized women in rural areas where we operate to fully integrate them in the tourism value chain.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

We believe in only working with the best partners, and having personal relationships with them to make sure our clients are always in the best hands. We commit to driving $500M of revenue to eco-friendly accommodations in East Africa and beyond. To achieve this, we strictly implement a sustainability checklist in our bookings SOP to ensure we prioritize booking eco-accredited hotels.

To extend this impact we also implement an internal partner checklist that vets ecofriendly suppliers like ground handlers, airlines and hotels so as to contribute towards our goal of promoting a green and responsible supply chain. So far, we have driven $200,000+ of revenue to eco-friendly accommodations and we aim to increase the number of Nomad’s eco-certified suppliers by 50% in 2025.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We aim to build a strong community of 1 million sustainable and regenerative travel enthusiasts. In doing so, we recognize the fundamental role that host communities play in providing holistic tourism experiences, and promote off-season travel via our Nomad Travel Club to ensure consistency for them.

In addition, we publish 10,000 copies of our travel magazine bi-monthly to educate on responsible practices through our sustainability column. Our Nomad Travel Club has over 1500 members, which in the near future will promote regenerative travel experiences, with a focus on domestic and regional travel within Africa.
