Lamu Dhow Race

Each year, Lamu Island comes alive with the exhilarating Lamu Dhow Race. This annual event is an amazing way to welcome the new year. Set against the backdrop of Lamu's ancient architecture and pristine shores, gracefully adorned dhows, with their billowing sails, compete for glory in a spectacle that honours both skill and tradition.

Beyond the race, the air is infused with the infectious energy of the local communities, making the Lamu Dhow Race a vibrant celebration of heritage and maritime prowess. It's a unique experience that beckons visitors to witness the winds of history unfurl on the waters of Lamu.

This year, #Prince from Lamu Town came first, followed by #Peponi from Shella village and 3rd #Feruz from Pate island, the entire archipelago was again well represented, an amazing show thanks to all Captains and Crews.

The WRC Safari Rally

The annual WRC Safari Rally is the most anticipated motorsports event of the year and is held in Naivasha. Renowned for its challenging and thrilling course, competitors can expect rocky tracks and unpredictable weather which could transform dry and dusty trails into viscous mud baths. As one of the most prestigious rallies in the World Rally Championship calendar, the Safari Rally exemplifies the spirit of adventure and endurance.

Rhino Charge

1st June - 2nd June

Rhino Charge is a one-day 4x4 off-road event within a 10-hour period in which competitors are required to visit 13 checkpoints, scattered over approximately 100 square kilometres of rough terrain. The event is used to raise funds to support Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust, an NGO working towards the conservation and protection of Kenya’s mountain range ecosystems, the “Water Towers”.

Lewa Marathon

29th June - 30th June

The Lewa Marathon is renowned as one of the world's most demanding yet fulfilling runs. Held within The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in northern Kenya, the marathon follows a challenging route along the conservancy's dirt roads, traversing the vast savannah plains, and encountering many animals along the way. This event has been instrumental in supporting conservation projects throughout Kenya for more than two decades and every participant's involvement plays a pivotal role in conservation’s future.

Kilifi Gold Triathlon

23rd September - 24th September

The KGT is the most popular sprint triathlon in East Africa, and an annual fundraising event for the Kilifi community, focusing on local projects that make a difference in the lives of those in need. The race starts with a swim across the boat channel in the Kilifi Creek, after which participants grab their bikes (BYOB… bike, not booze!) to cycle across the forest for 20km and finally, run 5km up and down Cardiac Hill and onto the beach through the finish line.

10to4 Mountain Bike Challenge

16th February - 18th February

The 10to4 Mountain Bike Challenge is a cause that raises funds for the Mount Kenya Trust (MKT) - a charity that promotes the sustainable management of Mt Kenya's biodiversity. Since its inception in 2002, over $600,000 has been raised! The event offers different routes based on individuals’ cycling levels but is designed to challenge even the most experienced cyclists! Proceeds from the event are used in planting trees, building and maintaining a 14km elephant corridor through farmland, returning 450 hectares of bare land to indigenous forests, nurturing tree nurseries and providing basic health care and creating awareness on the importance of conservation.

Kenya Great Migration

20th July - 10th October

Starting late July to early September, the annual Great Migration is often referred to as the greatest wildlife show in the world. Past migrations have seen up to 1.5 million wildebeest, close to a million zebra and gazelle move into the Maasai Mara Reserve from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The Mara River crossing is the venue for this spectacular display of wildlife and a showdown between the herds of wildebeest and crocodiles is a must-see for every traveller.

The Maze

The Maze is a city-wide pursuit where competitors are up against the odds in a treasure hunt around the city. Teams make their way from location to location to pick up carefully hidden clues. En route to the finish, the competition gets stiffer and the playing field is narrowed down to the final few. Up for grabs for the winning team is a weekend holiday away

Black Boy Love

Hosted by Kenyan storyteller, performing poet and filmmaker, Gufy Dox, this is a stunning showcase of performance poetry and music in a vibrant celebration of art. Hosted in Nairobi every few months, Gufy fuses spoken word with musical performances, with surprise musical artists joining him on stage. Gufy’s poetry redefines cultural narratives, fostering spaces where men openly embrace vulnerability and love. His poetry album "Black Boy Love," is available on all streaming platforms.

State of Fashion Biennale

16th May - 30th June

The next edition of the Biennale will be decentralised and held in four locations; the homesite in Arnhem and - starting in early 2024 - in three international sister sites in different continents in the Global South. In each of these sister sites, experienced curators and/or makers Sunny Dolat (Nairobi, Kenya), Kallol Datta (Bengalūru, India) and Hanayrá Negreiros (São Paulo, Brazil) have been invited as Interlocutors to develop a programme in their local contexts.

The 16th Affordable Art Show, held in May 2024 at the Nairobi National Museum, attracted over 3,600 visitors. With about 750 artworks on display and more than 400 artists showcasing their work, it is one of the most significant art shows in the East Africa region. The show, run by the Kenya Museum Society, happens twice yearly and raises money to support projects at the National Museums of Kenya. The next show will take place from 27th to 29th October 2024.

Afro Nation Festival

26th June - 28th June

The Afro Nation Festival is an annual three-day music festival established in 2019 to celebrate African music and culture. It features a wide range of musical genres, including Afrobeats, hip hop, R&B, dancehall, gqom, amapiano, and Afro-swing. The festival is held in Praia da Rocha, Portugal, a beautiful beach town in the Algarve region. 

 

The Humans of Eden

Bethuel Lasoi presents The Humans of Eden, a live, immersive concert staged through innovative and captivating storytelling combined with soul-stirring performances created to transport you into the world of Eden. The concert will be a one-of-a-kind experience, blending music, visuals, and narrative elements to create a sensory journey. Attendees will be transported into a world of wonder and reflection as they witness the unfolding story of redemption.

The event is organised by a musician named King Kerby. The event showcases his recently released album, SABA. The album is seen as a turning point for Afro-Popular music. King Kerby is credited with introducing healthy living themes and self-acceptance into his music.
