HOME OF THE PRIMATES
Deep in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest live 11 Gorilla families and you have the opportunity to get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures - an experience on many people’s ‘bucket list’. Treks start early in the morning, with the mountains still full of low clouds and mist. These expeditions can range from an hour to a full day - there and back. In groups no bigger than 8 you get to spend time with these magnificent primates and watch the silverback and his family enjoy their slow pace of life amongst the greenery of the forest.
Chimp Trekking
Living in a community of over 100 chimps, although splitting into smaller social groups, these guys are often overshadowed by their larger cousins, however, they still provide an unforgettable experience. Their constant jumping and calling loudly to each other while drumming on trees certainly alights the senses! Another great way to walk with these apes is to visit Ngamba Island which is an island in the middle of Lake Victoria. This is a rehabilitation centre and you can either go for a day visit or spend the night.
Chimpanzee & Gorilla Habituation
If you want to spend more time with these primates then habituation experiences provide just that. Get involved as the rangers spend whole days with the apes as they learn to be comfortable with humans. Over the course of the day, you can witness the daily routines of these groups and have your wildest interaction yet!
