SAMBURU
Get ready to encounter an array of unique wildlife that roam Samburu’s rugged landscapes, from elegant giraffes delicately browsing on acacia trees to elusive leopards stealthily traversing the shadows. Samburu also has its own version of "The Big 5" called "The Samburu 5" - a group of more exclusive wildlife in this more arid section of Kenya. Included in the Special 5 are the gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe, the Grevy’z zebra, the Somali ostrich and the beisa oryx.
Samburu's allure extends beyond its wildlife, encompassing a tapestry of landscapes like the majestic Mount Ololokwe - the local Samburu’s sacred mountain, or the peculiar “cat and mouse” mountain formations. There’s even the famous Elephant Rock which, unlike Cat and Mouse is not named after the rock’s resemblance to the animal but rather because in 2018, French artist Mantra painted a massive elephant head, extending the full depth of the boulder.
