Shompole, a wildlife conservancy nestled in Southern Maasailand, offers a unique safari experience. Despite its hot and dry climate, the region boasts a remarkable diversity of birds, reptiles, and large mammals, including all members of the "Big Five" except for rhinos. The lifeblood of Shompole is the Ewaso Ng'iro River, which originates in the Mau highlands and sustains wildlife, local communities, and their livestock. Situated nearly halfway between Amboseli National Park and Maasai Mara National Reserve, Shompole serves as a vital wildlife corridor between these renowned ecosystems.
One of the defining characteristics of Shompole is its ownership and management by the Maasai people. Unlike a National Park, Shompole offers visitors the freedom to explore beyond the confines of vehicles and experience a more intimate connection with the environment. This freedom comes with the responsibility of respecting the ecosystem and its guardians, the Maasai people.
