Rubondo, a remote island located in Lake Victoria, Tanzania, offers a truly exceptional adventure in a pristine sub-tropical ecosystem, where wild elephants and chimpanzees roam freely. Within this unique setting lies Rubondo Island Camp, the sole camp on the largest island national park in Africa. Nestled amid tropical forests and overlooking Lake Victoria, the camp provides a home to chimpanzees, elephants, giraffes, and an astounding array of 300 bird species.
Meals are served al fresco on the main deck, offering a view of the beach where guests can unwind with their toes in the sand. Afternoons can be spent relaxing in hammocks, equipped with binoculars and bird guides, or taking a refreshing dip in the pool. As the sun sets, guests can observe hippos emerging from the water to graze on the grass around the camp, adding to the captivating island experience.
The camp features eight waterfront, thatched-roofed cottages, with one larger family cottage included. Built by hand using traditional techniques and local materials, these cottages boast high ceilings and are tastefully adorned with natural colours, mirroring the lake and forest scenery. Each cottage has a terrace overlooking the lake, providing the perfect spot to observe the tranquil island life unfolding.
